Can I drop just the drug coverage and keep the rest of my employer/union health insurance?

  • Some employer/union insurance plans do not let you drop just the drug coverage. They make you drop the whole insurance plan. Then you would lose your other health-care coverage for doctor’s visits, etc. You would also lose your drug coverage.
  • If you join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, you may lose all your employer/union drug coverage. You may not be able to get your employer/union plan back.
  • IMPORTANT: If you change your part of the insurance plan, your spouse or dependents may lose their coverage.
